RESEARCH STATUS AT SHSS

The School continues to develop a good tradition of empirical research and publications with more than 150 peer-reviewed publications recorded among the full-time staff during the last decade. The publications (including journal articles and book chapters) cut across the different academic disciplines offered at the school – language (including Kiswahili and French), media, literature, political science, security studies, public administration, etc.

Staff at the School are also actively engaged in research grant writing, a crucial aspect of their academic growth. Among the targeted funders for such grants include the MUT Vice Chancellor’s Grant, National Research Fund, KENET, the British Institute in East Africa (BIEA), Spencer Foundation, Ford Foundation, CODESRIA, etc.

During the biennial international conferences held at MUT, more than 90% of the academic staff at the School participate in presenting papers. Some of these papers are eventually published in the university journal and Conference proceedings. Staff also active in presenting their research work at various local and international conferences and seminars.
